Black Mesa Sector EPF - 4.7

So, I haven't been resting on my laurels - I've been hard at work on the next version of EPF. There are quite a few changes. Every mission has been touched up and tweaked, some have been changed a fair bit, and one other has been completely redone. No mission 5 just yet though. Sorry about that, but the Gold Source limits are ruining my day.

One of the features I'm proudest of is that I've finally got the randomly spawning monsters to work. This worked basically in 4.6, however there was no respawning going on. This is now the case, so as you play the map, every now and then an alien slave will teleport in to keep the spawning area fresh and exciting. There are also some alien 'bosses' who will spawn in, but far less frequently than the slaves.

Some pics below for your entertainment. The first two are of the new area I've added to mission 1. The third is in the security room in mission 1. No special about that, however through the glass you can see the amusing situation I watched thanks to the addition of the spawning aliens.

Sven Co-op 4.6 released!

Good news everyone!

Sven Co-op 4.6 has been released. Normally this would be positive anyway, but as it's got Black Mesa EPF in it, it's a bit of milestone for me. Get over to the front page to download it.

Clanplanet.co.uk :: Vanilla Sven Co-op

For a little while now, I've been subscribing to clanplanet.co.uk to have a server put up for Sven Co-op. It's a pretty straightforward one, no bells & whistles, just vanilla Sven Co-op. There's a big map cycle and people can vote on nearly any map.

Most importantly, it also has Escape and Strikeback Beta 3 on it!

I've also added a permanent game tracker box to the side bar, so you can see how it's going.

Prefabs.

Once upon a time, many years ago, you could Google (or perhaps Yahoo back in those days) Half-Life prefabs, and a number of websites would come up giving you all the prefabricated constructions you could want for your Gold Source maps. Not anymore though sadly. Even the once great Gamedesign Prefabs has fallen into ruin. Fortunately, there are still places to turn. A slightly deeper search on Google turned up the following sites:

  • Snarkpit - Featuring 107 prefabs. Quite a mix of stuff on there, making it worth a look through. Lots of vehicles as well, which are always a pain to build.
  • Game Banana - 31 on this site. Some seem to overlap with Snarkpit, but there are a couple that appear useful (Black Mesa train perhaps?)
  • File Planet - Contains 16 files. Some handy, some not so handy, however the best by far are the PrefabLab archive. I have this unzipped on my hard drive, and I look through the pictures for what I want. Worth going deeper though as not all files have pictures. Well worth the download and time.
